Let’s review what we covered in this module.

Data collection responsibilities

The data collector collects high-quality HHFA data based on training received during the Data Collection Training workshop.

The team leader leads a team of HHFA data collectors, ensures that data are collected according to quality standards, and ensures synchronization of data to the server.

The area supervisor is responsible for all aspects of data collection in the region and for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data collection.

Planning the fieldwork

Planning the fieldwork involves a series of activities coordinated between the area supervisor and the team leader. The tasks include:

  • making advance contact with authorities/facilities;
  • preparing materials and tools for data collectors;
  • planning the data collection visits;
  • arranging for transport and regular communication;
  • confirming appointments with health facilities;
  • assigning questionnaire sections to data collectors.

Data collection in the field

For data collection in the field, arrive early and be prepared â€“ and ensure you know your section of the questionnaire and the tools before starting interviews.

On arrival at the facility grounds:

  • locate and verify the survey facility;
  • validate the cover page of the questionnaire;
  • collect GPS coordinates;
  • meet with the person in-charge of the facility;
  • identify facility staff to interview.

On arrival at the service site:

  • minimize non-productive time;
  • gain access and cooperation;
  • briefly explain the information you are seeking;
  • reassure respondent;
  • speak loudly and clearly when asking the questions;
  • record information completely and accurately.
